This afternoon, I tried to play a “Gestures” type game with the middle school students. The goal of the game was to creatively pair up verbs and adverbs in order to give the kid a goofy action to make while the other kids tried to guess it. Sounds fun and educational, right?
I asked each of the students to write a verb on one slip of paper and an adverb on another and then turn the papers in to me. I reminded the students that a verb was an action word and that an adverb was a word that typically described an action and usually ended in -ly.
Here are the words exactly as I received them from the 22 students (they didn’t know what each other had written):
